Bicep Adjustment
Difficulty Level = Beginner
Our Facebook group is a great place to get help, share your tips and creations! We are a friendly bunch, and we love to help and see what you have made.
Please read the full instructions before getting started.
Wash, dry, and press your fabric before starting your project. A bit of prep now prevents shrinking and means your garment will stay the same size you made it.
Never leave a child or baby unattended or allow to sleep in a garment made from one of our patterns with ties, snaps, buttons, or anything they could remove, choke on, or get caught on. Always use caution if you are unsure. We love our patterns, but we love your bundles of joy more!

Fitting NotesAs each pattern will have different style sleeves, they may fit differently on you. Check your measurement against the finished measurement chart. Once you’ve made your muslin of the pattern, you may find you need to make the sleeve bigger at the bicep.
Measure your bicep and check that measurement against the finished measurements. Make a note of the difference. This is how much you will need to add into the sleeve bicep.
Follow the tutorial below to adjust your one piece sleeve, where you will split and spread the piece to add into the bicep.
- + Instructions
1 . Opening the Sleeve1.1
Take your sleeve pattern piece and draw a line from the center of the top curve down to the hem (1), parallel to your grainline.
Draw a second line perpendicular to this line (2), at the bottom of the front and back curves.
NOTE – This image shows a darted raglan sleeve, the process is the same for all one piece sleeve shapes.
1.2From the bottom, cut up your first line, just to, but not through the top seam allowance.
Then from the center, cut out to, but not through, the seam allowance, toward both the front and back curves.
2 . Adding into the Bicep2.1Place your pattern piece onto your pattern paper.
Bring the open bottom edge back together, moving it up toward the top edge. This will create a gap at the center line (3).
The cuts to the side will overlap.
Keep moving the bottom up until the gap (3) is the same width as the amount you need to add into the bicep.
2.2Tape everything in place. Draw around the outside of your new sleeve piece.
Make sure to transfer all markings to your new sleeve.
Your bicep adjustment is complete.
I recommend sewing a muslin using your adjusted pattern piece. This will help you check the fit before sewing your final garment.
