Project OverviewDolls House Quiet Book
Difficulty Level = Beginner
I am so excited to share my latest project with you! The Quiet Dollhouse is a compilation of Pinterest-inspired ideas that seem to be trending lately. Softie Dollies, Take-A-Long Dollhouses, and Quiet Books all seem to pop up in my feed ALL the time. And, with summer road trips and travels under way, what better time for a fun project that is sure to inspire imaginative (not to mention, quiet) play. Fun for the kids, and great for parents’ sanity during long car rides and hotel stays.
Our Facebook group is a great place to get help, share your tips and creations! We are a friendly bunch, and we love to help and see what you have made.
Please read the full instructions before getting started.
Wash, dry, and press your fabric before starting your project. A bit of prep now prevents shrinking and means your garment will stay the same size you made it.
Never leave a child or baby unattended or allow to sleep in a garment made from one of our patterns with ties, snaps, buttons, or anything they could remove, choke on, or get caught on. Always use caution if you are unsure. We love our patterns, but we love your bundles of joy more!

Materials and Tools* If you are using a narrower fabric, a directional print, or a fabric with nap you may need more.
** Make sure to wash, dry, and press all fabrics before cutting out in case they shrink.Tools needed are sewing machine (or you could do it by hand), needle (as mentioned above, this project can get quite thick. You might find it easier to use a needle designed for thicker projects, rather than the standard needle size), scissors, pins.
Printing Your PatternSettings
The pattern is a separate download. Choose either the US letter paper, A4 paper, or A0 paper size based on the printer you wish to use. If you are in the US or Canada then your printer will likely use US letter paper. Other regions normally use A4 paper. Some people prefer to print their patterns at a print shop: A0 is best in this case.
Print at 100%.
On the second page, you will find a 1-inch and a 3-inch square test box. Print this page first, on its own, and measure these squares.
Once you are happy that the test box is accurate, print the rest of the pattern pages.
Please follow this video for information and assistance on assembling this pattern.
Also, please note that some Rebecca Page patterns and projects also come with cut files and a printable design page which you can use to plan your project if you wish. These are provided in a separate section below to avoid any confusion!

File Types
We have included three to four file types for you to choose from. Please choose whichever you are more familiar with or works best with your cutting machine. For cut files of the smaller pieces for some of our patterns, like the Dolls House Quiet Book and Add-on, we do not include a PDF copy. All versions come with .SVG, .PNG, and .DXF.
You will start by downloading the files from your account. Open your software and choose the file type you’d like to work with.
Pattern Cut Files
When working with cut files to cut small pattern pieces, it is imperative that you make sure the file is the correct size prior to cutting. We have included a one-inch square box offset in each file. You should be able to move the square off to the side, so it isn’t cut with the rest of your file. For files that also have square pieces, please be sure to compare them to the cut chart in the original file instructions. We’d always prefer you double check than have something cut out that isn’t useable!
Other Cut Files
For all other cut files, you should resize to your project needs. Please do keep in mind the size of some of the features. Going very small may make it difficult to cut smaller fonts or finer details.
Media
As mentioned earlier, it is very important to choose the correct media to for your cut. There is a huge selection to choose from and it can be overwhelming. Be sure to use the materials suggested by your machine for the type of project you are completing.

This fabric book is like a folder that opens out. There is a front and back cover which is the exterior of the house (and the structure of the book), then on the reverse of each of these is the inside of the house.
There are 5 different options for what type of ‘rooms’ you can put on the inside of your house. You need to pick 2 of these and can mix and match any you like for your own look. You could also put a room on the back of the house (the back cover) if you wished. There are also 3 different ‘dollies’ (you need 1, but you could do more if you wanted!).
Decide which 2 ‘rooms’ you’d like and which dollie/s, then cut each of the pieces according to the directions on the pattern piece. Seam allowances are all included so just cut them as is.
If you are using quilting cotton, cut fabric on the bias (diagonally) to reduce fraying. The small amount of fraying that will occur adds charm to your Doll House.
If you are using felt, you can cut at any angle, as it doesn’t fray!

0 . PreparationSeam Allowance
⅜ inch seam allowance included – Top stitching ⅛ inch – Basting ¼ inch
0.1Pattern Markings
Transfer all pattern markings and notches to the fabric using a disappearing ink pen or tailor’s chalk. For the Dollies you will need to transfer all facial features and turning marks to one of two cut pieces.
0.2Shoulder Straps
Fold Strap down the middle, lengthwise. Press. Open and fold the edges to the middle, so your raw edges are in the crease you just created. Press. Fold along original, center fold and press again. Topstitch ⅛ inch from both long edges. Repeat for other Strap and set aside.
1 . Dollies1.0This step is the same for either the Mouse, Kitty or Bear.
1.1Embroider or paint facial features.
1.2Pin doll front and back, right sides together. Stitch around perimeter, using a ⅜ inch seam allowance, leaving a gap for turning.
Clip curves, up to, but not through seams. Turn right side out and press.
1.3Stuff with Polyfill. Stitch gap closed with an invisible stitch.
TIP – A quick way to do this by hand is to use a blind stitch. Grab a needle and a long thread. Knot one end of the thread.
Slide the needle through the gap and under your seam allowance, coming out to the right side on your seam line. Slide the needle down the through opposite seam line, directly across from where you came up.
From inside, move down a stitch length and come back up through the seam line on the original side. Continue along the length of your gap. On your last stitch, secure the end of your thread.
Your Dollie is finished!
2 . House Structure2.1To attach the Roof piece to the house, pin the Roof piece to the top of the Outside House piece, right sides together. Sew using a ⅜ inch seam allowance.
Press seam allowance up toward the Roof.
Topstitch ⅛ inch.
Repeat for second Outside piece.
2.2To sew on the batting, pin batting to the wrong side of one Inside House piece. Baste ¼ inch from edges.
Repeat for all Inside House and Outside House pieces.
NOTE – The feature pieces you’ve chosen will be unique to your Doll House! You can choose whichever ones you would like and place them in whatever order makes you, and your little one, happy!
Please see below for individual instructions for the feature pieces. Once you have completed your desired pieces, come back here to finish assembly of your Doll House!
Next, we will sew the feature pieces you’ve chosen onto the cover and interior of your Dolls House. You can mix and match any steps and pattern pieces you like to create a completely unique book.
There are 5 different room options, and some exterior decoration techniques included. Follow the relevant steps below, then when you are all finished, skip ahead to step 10 to finish assembly of your Doll House!
3 . Outside of House3.1Place Door and Window pieces in your desired location on the front of the house. Pin in place.
Stitch around outside of each piece.
3.2If you are using Door or Window Frames, center them on top of the Door or Windows, overlapping slightly. Pin in place.
Stitch around perimeter, both inside and outside of each piece.
Flower buttons are lovely on the front of your house. See step 4 for how to make them and add as many as you’d like.
For the back of the house, use flower buttons to create an interactive garden for your little ones.
You can use different fabrics on either side of the flowers for more colors and textures. Little ones can rearrange and customize their garden.
This is also great for little hands to practice buttons!
Optional: choose one of the rooms to put on the back. Add a swimming hole so your dollies can go fishing before bed. Mix and match to make it quite unique!
4 . Button Flowers4.1Sandwich the batting, or interfacing, between your two flower pieces.
Sew around the outside using a ¼ inch seam allowance.
4.2Sew a buttonhole in the center of your flower, making certain to sew the correct size for the buttons you are using.
4.3Draw a stem using chalk on the outside of your house.
Embroider or paint the stem onto your house. Puffy paint is a great sensory addition to engage your child.
You can also add ric rac or thin ribbon for the stems.
4.4Sew a button on top of the stem.
Slide your flower on top of the button with your lovely buttonhole.
Repeat for as many flowers as you’d like for your garden.
5 . Room A Bedroom5.1To assemble the bed, take the Main Bed piece and pin it in the center of the bedroom. Make sure it is at least 1 inch from the bottom of the House piece to account for seam allowance.
Sew ¼ inch around the perimeter.
Take the blanket piece and fold the top edge down ½ inch to wrong side. Press and sew with a ⅜ inch seam allowance.
This is a great time to add lace or other decorative edging.
Lining up the center marks, lay Blanket piece on top of Main Bed piece at the bottom of the bed. Pin and sew along both sides and the bottom. Leave the top open like a pocket.
Layer Footboard piece at the foot of the bed, using center marks. Pin and sew around the perimeter.
Pin pillow piece to the top of the bed, just covering the top. Sew around the perimeter.
OPTIONAL – To make a Stuffed Pillow, leave a gap of about 1 inch when sewing the perimeter. Stuff with Pollyfill and sew the opening closed.
5.2To add the Nightstand, pin the Side Table piece on either side of the bed. Sew around the perimeter.
If desired, draw a door and drawer with chalk and sew.
OPTIONAL – Sew on small beads for handles. Or just sew a bar tack if you don’t happen to have beads handy.
Repeat on other side of the bed.
5.3To add a Flower Vase, center piece on top of the Nightstand. Pin and sew around the perimeter.
Embroider or paint flowers and stems.
OPTIONAL – If desired, sew a button on top of stem in place of flower blooms.
5.4To add a Lamp to the other nightstand, center Lamp Base piece on top of nightstand. Pin and sew around perimeter.
Place Lamp Shade piece at the top of the Lamp Base piece, overlapping slightly. Pin and sew around perimeter.
OPTIONAL – To make a Pull String, sew a line, approximately 1 inch from underneath the Lamp Shade, and add a small bead at the end.
The Bedroom is done!! Your doll can get some sleep!
6 . Room B Living Room6.1Pin your Couch Cushion piece approximately 2 inches from the bottom of the House piece. Sew perimeter.
OPTIONAL – Sew a curved line for the seat.
Place Couch Frame over Cushion, overlapping slightly. Pin and sew perimeter.
6.2Add the Side Table using the same instructions as Step 5.2 for the Nightstand.
6.3Pin Window piece above couch and sew perimeter.
OPTIONAL – You can sew crossing lines for windowpanes.
Take your Curtain pieces and sew a row of gathering stitches, ¼ inch from the top of each one.
Pull bobbin threads to gather.
Pin Curtains on either side of the Window and stitch along the top.
Here is another great place for a piece of lace or ribbon to create a valence.
6.4To add the Rotary Phone (do kids even know what this is?), pin the handset pieces together, wrong sides facing.
Cut a piece of embroidery thread or thin ribbon, about 5 inches long. Tie a knot at each end.
Place one end of thread inside the Handset pieces. Sew around the perimeter, catching the knot on the inside. You may want to sew over the string 2-3 times to secure it.
Pin the Phone Base on top of the End Table. Place the other end of thread into the lower, left-hand corner of the Phone Base.
Sew around the perimeter, again catching the knot on the inside and sewing over the thread 2-3 times.
Sew a button in place for the rotary dial.
Your living room is ready for your dolly to move in!
7 . Room C Tent7.1Take Tent Piece (piece 1) and pin it to the center of your House Piece. Sew around the perimeter.
7.2Place the Main Sleeping Bag piece in the center of the tent and sew around the perimeter.
We will be using the Blanket piece to make the outside layer of the sleeping bag. Fold the upper edge down by ½ inch, wrong sides facing. Press and stitch at ⅜ inch.
Place Blanket piece on top of Sleeping Bag and sew along bottom and sides, leaving the top open as a pocket.
7.3Take the Tent Flap pieces (piece 2) and fold the inside edge, wrong sides facing ½ inch. Press and stitch.
Clip off excess fabric at the tips.
Lay one of the Tent Flaps on top of the Tent, lining up the edges. Sew along edge. (Your finished edge should be in the center of the tent.)
Repeat with the other Flap.
OPTIONAL – Sew a button to keep the tent closed for bedtime!
7.4Place the Moon piece where you’d like it and sew the perimeter.
Embellish with little stars if desired.
8 . Room D Swimming Hole8.1We will start with Fish! Take two Fish pieces and pin wrong sides together. Insert a length of ribbon, 8 inches for deep water or 5 inches for shallow water, between the two pieces, at the tail. Pin in place.
Sew around the perimeter, again sewing over the ribbon 2-3 times for security.
If you’d like, sew a little fin and tail features.
Repeat for multiple fish, if desired. Set aside for now.
8.2Pin the Main Pond piece to the House piece and sew around the perimeter.
Pin both Pond piece 2 pieces together, right sides facing and sew along the top, wavy edge with a ⅜ inch seam allowance.
Clip seam allowance, flip right sides out and press. Edge stitch along wavy edge.
Repeat with Pond piece 3.
8.3If you’re adding fish, pin the 8 inch ribbon to the bottom of the pond, wherever you’d like it and baste in place.
Place the Pond piece 2 on top of Pond piece 1, lining up the bottom edge. Pin and sew the bottom and sides, leaving the top, wavy edge, open.
Take your other fish, and pin the shorter ribbon to the bottom of the pond, wherever you’d like it and baste in place
Add Pond piece 3 on top of the pond like we did with Pond piece 2, lining up the bottom edge and sewing the sides and bottom.
Use embroidery or paint to add additional details, such as cat tails.
Your dollies are ready for a swim!!
9 . Room E Camp Fire9.1Pin Fire piece 1 to the center of your House piece. Sew around the perimeter.
Pin Fire piece 2 to the center of Fire piece 1 and sew around the perimeter.
9.2Place one of the Fire Logs at a slanted angle, slightly to the left side at the bottom of the fire. Pin and sew around the perimeter.
Place the other Fire Log piece slanted and slightly to the right side at the bottom of the fire, so they are crisscrossed. Pin and sew in place.
Your dollies are ready to warm up by the fire!!
10 . Assembly10.1Place the Front House piece on top of the Back House piece, right sides together.
Pin along the right edge and sew with a ⅜ inch seam allowance.
Press the seam open.
OPTIONAL – Topstitch on both sides of the seam.
Repeat with the Inside Room pieces.
10.2Cut four pieces of ribbon, 12 inches long.
You can finish the edges by cutting the ribbon at an angle and carefully singeing with a lighter.
Place the ribbons on the right sides of the Outside House pieces. They need to be placed 2 inches down from the top and 2 inches up from the bottom on both the Front and Back House pieces.
Baste in place.
10.3Taking the Shoulder Straps, you made earlier, place them where marked along the roofline.
Baste in place.
10.4Place the Inside House pieces (bedroom and living room), right sides together, on top of the Outside House piece and pin.
Sew around the edge with a ⅜ inch seam allowance, leaving a gap for turning.
NOTE – Be careful not to catch the shoulder straps or ribbon in this seam.
Clip corners to reduce bulk after turning.
Clip the middle seam, all the way up to, but not through the stitch line, or you will have a hole!
Turn Doll House right side out. Use a blunt object, like a chopstick, to push out the corners.
Press.
Topstitch all the way around your Doll House. This will close the gap you left for turning.
