- 60 inches wide High Loft Fusible Fleece Interfacing – approximately 2.00 yards will be sufficient for all sizes.
- NOTE – There are many other types of stabilizers that can be used, they may affect the finished look if they are not similar to Fusible Fleece.
- OPTIONAL Pocket Elastic – ¼ inch wide Elastic. Approximately 1 yard will be sufficient for all sizes.
- OPTIONAL Decorations – you can personalize your baskets using embroidery, vinyl, paint etc.
- Thread to match
- Measure the Rise and Run of your stairs.
- If Rise is different, you will have to change sides A, C and E of the Side Panels, the longer side of Front Panel and the longer side of Bottom Panel. OPTIONAL Pockets will need some modification, too.
- A different Run size will change sides B and D on the Side Panels and long side of the Bottom Panel. The OPTIONAL Small Pocket should be changed as well.
- Seam Allowances – These are ½ inch on either side of the seam, so you will need to allow a total of 1 inch (½ + ½ = 1) to create the Side Panels.
- The long side of the Front Panel will be equal to edge E of the Side Panel.
- The long edge of the Bottom Panel can be calculated like this: (A – 0.5) + B + C + (D – 0.5).
- Piecing Fabric – If any of the pieces are larger than your fabric, you may need to cut them in multiple pieces and stitch together. Make sure to add seam allowances, do this now before continuing onto the sewing steps.
- Side Panel – Fabric cut 2 (1x mirror image pair), Lining cut 2 (1x mirror image pair), Fleece Interfacing cut 4 at inner line (1x mirror image pair)
- Bottom Panel – Fabric cut 1 on fold, Lining cut 1 on fold, Fleece Interfacing cut 2 on fold at inner line
- Handle – Fabric cut 2, Lining cut 2, OPTIONAL Interfacing cut 2
- Front Panel – Fabric cut 1, Lining cut 1, Fleece Interfacing cut 2 at inner line

Our Facebook group is a great place to get help, share your tips and creations! We are a friendly bunch, and we love to help and see what you have made.
Please read the full instructions before getting started.
Wash, dry, and press your fabric before starting your project. A bit of prep now prevents shrinking and means your garment will stay the same size you made it.
Never leave a child or baby unattended or allow to sleep in a garment made from one of our patterns with ties, snaps, buttons, or anything they could remove, choke on, or get caught on. Always use caution if you are unsure. We love our patterns, but we love your bundles of joy more!

Printing Your PatternSettings
The pattern is a separate download. Choose either the US letter paper, A4 paper, or A0 paper size based on the printer you wish to use. If you are in the US or Canada then your printer will likely use US letter paper. Other regions normally use A4 paper. Some people prefer to print their patterns at a print shop: A0 is best in this case.
Print at 100%.
On the second page, you will find a 1-inch and a 3-inch square test box. Print this page first, on its own, and measure these squares.
Once you are happy that the test box is accurate, print the rest of the pattern pages.
Please follow this video for information and assistance on assembling this pattern.
Also, please note that some Rebecca Page patterns and projects also come with cut files and a printable design page which you can use to plan your project if you wish. These are provided in a separate section below to avoid any confusion!

File Types
We have included three to four file types for you to choose from. Please choose whichever you are more familiar with or works best with your cutting machine. For cut files of the smaller pieces for some of our patterns, like the Dolls House Quiet Book and Add-on, we do not include a PDF copy. All versions come with .SVG, .PNG, and .DXF.
You will start by downloading the files from your account. Open your software and choose the file type you’d like to work with.
Pattern Cut Files
When working with cut files to cut small pattern pieces, it is imperative that you make sure the file is the correct size prior to cutting. We have included a one-inch square box offset in each file. You should be able to move the square off to the side, so it isn’t cut with the rest of your file. For files that also have square pieces, please be sure to compare them to the cut chart in the original file instructions. We’d always prefer you double check than have something cut out that isn’t useable!
Other Cut Files
For all other cut files, you should resize to your project needs. Please do keep in mind the size of some of the features. Going very small may make it difficult to cut smaller fonts or finer details.
Media
As mentioned earlier, it is very important to choose the correct media to for your cut. There is a huge selection to choose from and it can be overwhelming. Be sure to use the materials suggested by your machine for the type of project you are completing.

0.1Interfacing
Using the manufacturer’s instructions, apply the fusible fleece interfacing onto the wrong side of all Main and Lining Side pieces, except the Straps.
OPTIONAL – If desired, you can add Interfacing to the Main Strap pieces.
0.2OPTIONAL Personalization
If you are adding any decorations to personalize your Stair Bag, add these to the Side Panel pieces now. Remember that there is a ½ inch seam allowance, so place the decorations with this in mind. If you will be folding over the top edge, keep that in mind too.
1 . Handles1.1Place the Main and Lining Handle pieces right sides together along one long edge. Pin.
1.2Stitch using a ½ inch seam allowance.
1.3Turn right sides out and press the seam.
1.4Open the Handle. Fold the Main Handle a ½ inch toward the wrong side. Press, creating a memory hem.
NOTE – A memory hem is where you fold and press your hem, but do not actually stitch it yet. We do this so that the fold lines are pressed into the Handle.
1.5Repeat step 1.4 creating a memory hem on the Handle Lining.
1.6Place the short edges of the Main and Lining Handle right sides together. Pin.
1.7Stitch both short edges using a ½ inch seam allowance.
1.8Trim the corners. Be careful not to cut into the seams.
1.9Turn Handle right sides out.
1.10Refold the memory hem pressed in step 1.4 and 1.5. Then place both long edges of the Handle together. Pin. Topstitch using a ⅛ inch seam allowance.
1.11OPTIONAL – Topstitch around the other three outer edges using a ⅛ inch seam allowance. Press.
Repeat steps 1.1 to 1.11 to create the second Handle.
2 . OPTIONAL Pockets2.0The construction is the same for OPTIONAL Side and Front Pockets. If you are not adding OPTIONAL Pockets, skip to step 3.
2.1Place the Pocket Main and Lining right sides together and stitch the top edges using a ½ inch seam allowance.
2.2Turn it right sides out and press the seam with the wrong sides together.
2.3Flip the Main Pocket up. Place the elastic next to the seam sandwiching it between the main and lining. Baste the elastic onto one edge using a ¼ inch seam allowance.
2.4Cut the elastic as long as desired. It should be slightly stretched, when you are happy with it, baste the other end of the elastic to the other side of the pocket.
TIP – The elastic should be approximately 1 inch shorter than the width of the pocket.
2.5Place the Pocket onto the right side of the Side Panel or Front Panel aligning the bottom raw edges and the sides. Baste the two side and bottom edges using a ¼ inch seam allowance.
Repeat steps 2.1 to 2.5 to create all OPTIONAL Pockets you would like to add.
3 . Bag Construction3.1Lay the Bottom Panel on top of the Front Panel, aligning the short edges right sides together. Pin.
3.2On either panel, mark ½ inch from both long raw edges. Then stitch using a ½ inch seam allowance, only stitching between the markings.
3.3Place the Front Panel onto the Side Panel, edge E, right sides together. Pin.
3.4On the Side Panel, mark ½ inch from the bottom raw edge.
NOTE – You will stop stitching at the mark on the edge of the Side Panel as this will allow you to attach the Bottom Panel to the next edge of the Side Panel.
3.5Stitch only to the marked point using a ½ inch seam allowance.
Do not stitch from the ½ inch mark to the raw edge.
3.6Align the Bottom Panel with edge D of the Side Panel, right sides together.
Measure ½ inch from the end of the Side Panel raw edge and mark it on the Side Panel. Pin the Bottom Panel onto the Side Panel.
3.7Stitch only to the marking using a ½ inch seam allowance.
3.8Snip into the Bottom Panel to the stitch line. This will allow you to align the Bottom Panel raw edge to the next Side Panel edge, edge C. Snip only the Bottom Panel. Be careful not to cut through the stitch line.
NOTE – The snip will be parallel to edge C.
3.9Align the Bottom Panel to Side Panel edge C.
Measure and mark a ½ inch from the end of the edge of Side Panel edge C.
NOTE – You will stitch to the mark you made on the Bottom Panel. This will cause the stitching to be a ½ inch longer than the raw edge of the Side Panel. past the raw edge.
3.10Stitch to the marking using a ½ inch seam allowance.
3.11Make a snip into the Bottom Panel right at the end of your previous stitch. Snip the Bottom Panel only.
NOTE – The snip will be parallel to edge B.
3.12Align Bottom Panel to Side Panel edge B and pin.
NOTE – The seam allowances will overlap each other when you align the raw edges.
3.13Mark ½ inch from the raw edge.
NOTE – You will stop stitching at the mark you made, this will cause the stitching to be a ½ inch shorter than the raw edge.
3.14Stitch until the marking using a ½ inch seam allowance.
3.15Make a snip into the Bottom Panel at the end of the previous stitch.
NOTE – The snip should be parallel to edge A.
3.16Pin the Bottom Panel to the Side Panel edge A.
3.17Stitch using a ½ inch seam allowance.
3.18Repeat steps 3.3. to 3.17 to the other Side Panel.
Clip into the seam allowance where the bag sits on the stair. Be careful, not to cut into the seamline.
Turn the bag right sides out.
3.19Repeat steps 3.1 to 3.18 to create the Lining.
Clip into the seam allowance where the bag sits on the stair. Be careful, not to cut into the seamline.
4 . Finishing Bag4.1Fold the top edge of the Main Bag ½ inch to the wrong side. Press.
4.2Repeat step 4.1 to create a memory hem on the Bag Lining.
4.3Drop the Bag Lining inside the Main Bag, wrong sides together, matching the side seams. Pin.
Continue pinning along the top edge, easing the pieces together.
4.4Topstitch using a ⅛ seam allowance.
If you are doing the Plain OPTION, skip to step 4.6. if you are doing the Folded OPTION, follow below.
4.5Folded OPTION –
To give your bag more structure, fold the top of the bag 1 – 1 ½ inch over.
OPTIONAL – Topstitch the folded over portion of the bag (stitch all layers) just above the Handle markings using a ⅛ inch seam allowance.
4.6Plain and Folded OPTION –
Pin the Handles at the markings.
4.7For the ends of the Handles, stitch in place, making a 1-inch rectangle ¼ inch from the edge of each end. Stitch diagonally across to make a X in the middle for additional strength.
NOTE – This little rectangle gives more strength to the Handles than just stitching or basting across the edge. It will be visible in the final stair bag, but I highly recommend going for the stronger option and doing the rectangle!
Your Stair Bag is finished!
