Materials and ToolsFabric – You will need a woven fabric for the Doll (not suitable for knit). You need to select your preferred colors for the Body, Hair and Shoes. You could use nearly any fabric for the Skirt – knit or woven. I used a knit in this tutorial. For the Eyes, choose a non-fraying fabric such as felt. Again, select your colors for the Eye, Iris (any color), Pupil and for the Eyelashes.

Printing Your PatternSettings
The pattern is a separate download. Choose either the US letter paper, A4 paper, or A0 paper size based on the printer you wish to use. If you are in the US or Canada then your printer will likely use US letter paper. Other regions normally use A4 paper. Some people prefer to print their patterns at a print shop: A0 is best in this case.
Print at 100%.
On the second page, you will find a 1-inch and a 3-inch square test box. Print this page first, on its own, and measure these squares.
Once you are happy that the test box is accurate, print the rest of the pattern pages.
Please follow this video for information and assistance on assembling this pattern.
Also, please note that some Rebecca Page patterns and projects also come with cut files and a printable design page which you can use to plan your project if you wish. These are provided in a separate section below to avoid any confusion!

Cutting Checklist:
NOTE – To cut fabric on the fold, fold your fabric over parallel to the selvage edges. Align the pattern piece so it is on the fold of the fabric. Cut around the edges, leaving the fold. If you have folded your fabric correctly the fold will be parallel to the two edges of the fabric that are finished. The raw edges (e.g. the ones you could pick at and threads would come off) will be at a right angle to your fold.
- + Instructions
- HEAD – Place hair on top of head, baste upper, round edge to head. Zip-zag stitch along hairline. Layer and sew eye pieces. If making a boy ballerina, skip to step 2. Right sides together, sew around round edge of bun pieces. Clip seam allowance and turn. Baste along opening and gather. Aligning center points, baste bun to top of face.
- BODY – Aligning center points, stitch head to body using ⅛ inch seam allowance. Repeat for back of head and body. If adding shoes, baste bottom curve of shoe to leg and zig-zag top edge of shoe. Right sides together, sew along sides and bottom of arms and legs. Clip curves. Turn arms and legs right sides out. Press. Fill arms and legs 2/3 of the way up with stuffing or pellets. Pin arms to front of ballerina, at the top of the body and legs at the bottom corners. Baste in place. Right sides together, sew front to back, leaving a gap at the bottom, flat portion of the body. Turn doll right side out and press. Fill with Polyfill. Fold fabric at opening under ¼ inch and stitch closed.
- OPTIONAL SKIRT – If adding skirt, stitch shorts ends right sides together. Fold top of skirt down ¾ inch and press. Stitch ½ inch from top around to form a casing, leaving a 1-inch gap where you would like the center front to be. Turn skirt right side out. Pull a ribbon through casing. Gather and tie skirt onto your doll. OPTIONAL – Tie/attach ribbon around the bun and on shoe fronts. Embellish as desired!
Quick Glance Cheat Sheet¼ inch seam allowance included
Sewing –
1 . HeadSeam Allowance
¼ inch seam allowance included
1.1Place hair on top of head. Both pieces should be right side up.
Set your sewing machine to the longest straight stitch and baste in place along the top of the head.
Using an applique or short zig-zag stitch, sew along the hairline.
The hair should now be attached to the head around all sizes.
1.2Now we need to create a face.
You can go as creative as you want for this step! You could use a silhouette cutting machine to create vinyl eyes to ironed on. You can also forgo pattern pieces and add eyes, nose, and or a mouth by embroidering or fabric paint!
If you are using the pattern pieces provided, you will have traced and cut out the eye pieces from your double sided interfacing in the cutting step.
Iron each of these onto the appropriate color piece of fabric as per the manufacturer’s instructions. Let cool and cut out.
You can also cut an additional small piece of white fabric, a bead, or a diamante to use as an eye glitter.
Assemble the eyes by placing the eye pieces on top of your eyelashes then see where you would like them on the face. Do not remove your backing paper yet.
1.3Once decided, peel off your backing fabric for each layer and iron on then stitch in place using matching thread either with your sewing machine or by hand.
1.4If you would like to make a boy ballerina, skip to step 2.
If you are making a girl ballerina, with right sides together, sew the two bun pieces together along the outer top edge. Clip along the seam allowance on the curves.
When clipping the curve, use the very tip of your scissors so you have more control. Snip up to, but not through your stitch line, or you will have a small hole.
1.5Turn the bun right sides out and press. Sew a basting stitch along the bottom to gather the bun slightly.
1.6Place the bun top side down in the middle of the top of the face. Baste in place.
2 . Body2.1Find the center points for the bottom of the face and top of the body pieces. Mark with a pin.
Lay the face and body right sides up, one above the other. Flip the body up onto the head so it is right sides together.
Stitch the face to the body using a ⅛ inch seam allowance.
2.2Repeat for the back of the head and body. Press the seam allowances up towards the head.
2.3If adding shoes to the ballerina, place the shoe pieces right sides up on the legs.
Set your sewing machine to the longest straight stitch and baste along the bottom of the shoe.
Use a short zig-zag stitch or applique stitch to sew the top of the shoe.
2.4With right sides together, sew along the sides and bottom of both legs and arms. Make sure to backstitch at the beginning and end so that it holds together well. Clip along the seam allowance on the curves.
2.5Turn the arms and legs right side out. (This can be very tricky as they are so small. I like to use the back side of a pen to help push the fabric through). Press the fabric.
2.6Fill the arms about 2/3 of the way with either stuffing or pellets. I prefer pellets so that there is some weight to the arms and legs. Repeat with the legs filling 2/3 of the way up.
Baste the tops of the arms and legs closed close to the edge so that the pellets and stuffing does not fall out.
2.7Place the face and front body right side up. Pin the arms in place at the top of the body. Pin the legs in place at the corners of the body bottom.
Baste arms and legs in place close to the edge.
2.8Place the back head/body right side down on top. Pin in place all around the doll.
Starting at one leg, sew using a ¼ inch seam allowance around the body and head. Finish at the other leg.
This will leave a small opening between the two legs.
Clip along the seam allowance on the curves.
2.9Turn the doll right side out and press.
Fill the doll using polyfill stuffing. Be sure to push the filling into any curves and corners to avoid wrinkles in the fabric. Fold ¼ inch of fabric under at the opening and stitch closed either by hand or by machine.
3 . Skirt3.1If adding the skirt, fold the skirt fabric in half length-wise with right sides together. Sew together along the short edge using a ¼ inch seam allowance.
Fold the bottom of the skirt up ¾ inch and press. Sew along the bottom edge ½ inch down.
3.2Fold the top of the skirt down ¾ inch and press.
Sew along the top edge using a ½ inch seam allowance.
Leave a gap of 1 inch where you’d like the center front to be.
3.3Turn the skirt right side out. Find the center of the skirt front.
Use a safety pin to pull a piece of ribbon through the hole on top of the skirt. Gather, and tie the skirt on using a bow.
OPTIONAL – Tie/attach ribbon as desired around the bun and on the shoe fronts. Embellish as desired!
